Sohma House is a specialist clinic in Cairns for people dealing with pain, sleeplessness, stress, burnout, chronic illness, nervous system dysregulation, and other layered health challenges. We combine specialist plant-medicine prescribing, coordinated clinical care, and embodied practice so getting better stops feeling like a second job.

Medicine, Movement, Culture.

The problem

Most healthcare was not built for complex lives.

Most patients know what is not working long before they know what they need.

They arrive carrying pain, poor sleep, stress, fatigue, hormonal disruption, nervous system strain, or symptoms that have been moving through their life for years. They have often already spent too long coordinating their own care between practitioners who never speak to each other.

That is not a personal failure. It is a structural problem.

Sohma House was built in response to it.

Plant medicine

Specialist plant-medicine care, practised as the complex clinical work it is.

This is one of our core clinical domains, and one of the clearest ways people enter our world.

Our lead practitioners have been doing this work since the early days of the scheme, when the pathway was paper-based and the regulatory landscape was still finding its shape.

We've watched this medicine change lives. We've also watched it prescribed badly. Both shape how we do the work now.

Getting this right inside the broader landscape of a real human life requires time, discernment, and clinical precision. Sohma is here to set a different standard.

What We Treat

Care for the presentations that don't have simple answers.

What we do

Sohma began with plant medicine. It was never built to stop there.

We are a functional and integrative medicine clinic designed for people with layered, evolving, and often chronic health needs.

Patients often arrive for our plant-medicine work and stay for the wider model of care around it.

One building. One clinical team.

Shared records. A clinical lead holding the thread across your care.

The model

Medicine. Movement. Culture.

Medicine

Rigorous, personalised care for complex and chronic health. Specialist plant-medicine prescribing, functional and integrative medicine, women's health, IV therapy, physiotherapy, herbal medicine, and multidisciplinary case conferencing.

Care with the time and follow-through the work actually requires.

Movement

Embodied practice as part of the model of care. Yoga, breathwork, somatic work, rehabilitation-oriented support, private sessions, group practice, immersions, and retreats.

Spaces where people move from being treated as a body to rebuilding a relationship with it.

Culture

Health does not happen in isolation. Sohma extends beyond the consult room through education, dialogue, community, and practitioner development.

Where care becomes environment, and a clinic starts to behave like the living organism it should be.

Your Care Team

You're not passed between strangers. You're held by a team that already knows your name.

Most clinics have practitioners who happen to share a building. They share a waiting room, not a conversation.

At Sohma House, your care team meets regularly to discuss your case, test each other's assumptions, and build one plan they all stand behind. Every practitioner you see already knows your history, your goals, and what everyone else is doing. You never start from scratch.

Pathways

Complex presentations. Clear care pathways.

Part of our work is collapsing complexity into something you can actually move through. Most patients do not arrive knowing what kind of care they need. Our pathways describe the level of coordination each case requires.

Focused Care

One concern. One pathway.

A specialist plant-medicine consultation, a hormone assessment, an IV infusion series, or a physiotherapy block.

Integrated Care

More than one domain of need.

A small practitioner team working from one coordinated plan, with a clinical lead keeping that plan coherent.

Coordinated Care

Deeper systems-level input.

Multidisciplinary case conferencing, long-arc integration, and a care team operating as a single unit.

You do not need to know which pathway you are in.

Our measure

We measure success by what you can do without us.

Our measure is not how tightly someone remains attached to the clinic. It is what capacity they regain while moving through it.

Better sleep. Less time on the phone with practitioners who don't speak to each other. Fewer appointments. More room in your head for the things you actually want to do.

We hold people until they can hold themselves. That is the work.

Experience

What it actually feels like to be seen here.

At Sohma, you'll never be asked to tell your story twice.

We begin by gathering a complete picture of your history. Your clinical notes are shared across your care team, so you are not reintroducing yourself at every step.

If your case needs coordination, we run case conferences in-house. Your GP, physiotherapist and clinical herbalist sit in the same building, sharing the same notes. The hallway is shorter than the referral system.

Designed to hold complex health, simply.

WHY CAIRNS

Rooted in the oldest living rainforest on earth.

Cairns sits at the edge of ancient abundance. Rainforest uninterrupted for hundreds of thousands of years. Nature at a scale that recalibrates what you think is possible.

We're here because this place changes people before we do anything clinical. The pace slows. The nervous system uncoils. The manufactured urgency of city life sheds, and in that shedding, there's room for something real to begin.

A reason to come to Cairns that has nothing to do with the reef and everything to do with how you leave.

What People Experience

They'd stopped expecting healthcare to feel like this.

Health is complex. Accessing care should not be.

The first step is a consultation. We'll take it from there.

Whether you are exploring specialist plant-medicine care or looking for a more coordinated model of integrative healthcare, the door is open.
